Sausage Cheddar Biscuits

These whip up and are pretty easy and so yummy! Definitely make these for your company. A great addition to a holiday breakfast.

I used Tillamook cheddar cheese and shredded it myself but you can buy already shredded cheese.

I used spicy sausage but you can get your favorite sausage or even turkey or chicken sausage. Cook up the sausage ahead of time to save time.

Cold butter is key for any biscuit. Set your butter on the counter to get softened. Cut it into tiny cubes. Put it back in the refrigerator to chill. When ready to use your butter will be cubed and ready to mix into your flour mixture.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound of sausage
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup butter (1stick)
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup of buttermilk plus 2 Tablespoons
  • 1/4 cup Melted butter for brushing

Preheat oven to 425℉

Cook and drain your sausage. Pat dry with paper towel.

Shred the cheese. Mix together your flour, soda, salt and baking powder. Add in your chilled butter and with a fork or your hands blend the butter into the flour. It will be dry and lumpy. Add in your cheese and sausage and toss around. Add in your buttermilk. Use your hands to mix it together. The dough will be on the dryer side. It is not a very wet dough.

Turn over dough to a cutting board and shape into a rectangle.

Cut into 2-3 inch squares.

Place on a cooking stone or greased baking sheet. I use parchment paper lined sheet pan.

Bake for 18-20 minutes brush with melted butter once out of the oven.Serve immediately.

Tip: to re-heat, warm in an Air-Fryer
